Whatever you do…don’t think about little 15 year old Tally when he’s just had his legs blown off. Don’t think about how he would have thudded hard onto the ground and lain there with a surprised yet dazed expression. Then the ringing in his ears from the explosion finally fades and he manages to look down and see the bloody mangled mess of burning flesh that used to be his legs.

He’ll turn his head, trying desperately to see the war party but it’s already becoming a dust cloud in the distance, the rumble of engines dying down to awful silence. “W-wait!” He’ll cry, choking on the sand he inhaled from his fall. “Wait! S-someone…!” Then the pain will finally catch up to his shock and he’ll close his eyes and whimper, tears leaving streaks down his dust covered cheeks, the stumps of his legs failing feebly as he tries to move. 

He’s scared, he’s alone, he’s going to die painfully and unwitnessed having never had a chance to do anything shiny in his short half life. It had been his first raid. He hasn’t even driven a car yet. And now it was all over. He doesn’t even have the comfort of knowing if he’ll be awaited in Valhalla. And Tally will cry, quiet sobs lost to the wasteland wind, a tiny deformed figure alone in the bloody sand.

He’ll probably pass out not much later. And so he won’t see or hear the car hurtling towards him, won’t see the big, broad War Boy with a shiny chrome head and worried eyes jump off the back and gently scoop him up. When he opens his eyes next, he’s in the Blood Shed and, like a nightmare, his legs are still gone - though his stumps have been cleaned and bandaged. And fresh tears will well in his eyes because Tally knows: “if you can’t stand up you can’t do war.”

And he’s so certain that he’ll never stand again.

Yeah…don’t think about that. (Thank god Hams gives the chicken child new legs and saves him from pretty much breaking apart into a tiny miserable heap).
