Alright guys, thanks to the huge response from people, I’ve decided to delve a little deeper into this MMFR Tarot idea! This is just a preliminary feeler post, so don’t get too excited (though this will probably happen at this point, I’m not 100% positive). So this will just be an outline of the basic ideas I’m got going right now!

The Art

I’m thinking of doing a collaborative deck, so many artist can have a chance to get their work into the deck. I (or whoever I’m working closest with) will probably do “tryouts” of some kind, just to make sure we have the best artists we can get. Here are a few points to keep in mind:

• Full color illustrations with backgrounds would probably be the norm. (Some cards might have other requirements, but that’s not hugely likely. We want our neck to be nice and pretty!)
• I’ll make a list of scenes for all the cards so that there’s no overlap or repeats. (I’ll most likely make a preliminary list in a GoogleDoc or something so that people can go on and give their own opinions, and then I’ll finalize things and assign the cards to the artists.)
• I’d really like to get 40 or so artists in on this; that would mean each artist has to do two cards. (25 would probably be the bare minimum, which each artist doing three cards [and some with four]. The back of the card and borders [if we choose to have borders [[which I recommend]]] would need to be done as well.)
• We would also need someone (maybe me?) who’s willing to finalize the cards (I.E. put all the borders with the artwork if necessary, get everything into a card template, etc.)
• All artists would get a copy of the deck for free, of course! (Unless you really wanna fund it.)

The Process

Here are even more bullets (I like bullets) on how I think this whole thing would go! (I’m sure I’ll have to change some things; this is just a quick list.)

1. Firstly, I’ll probably do a poll or something to see about how many people would want a deck. This would help me start getting quotes from printing companies and seeing how much money the project would take.
2. I am gonna do a looooooooot of research into companies for printing and whatnot. Early in the process when I find some good companies and have an estimate of how many decks we might need, I’ll get some quotes and see what works best for us.
3. After that, I’ll start a Kickstarter where people can start funding the project. (This is also where most of the deck-getting will happen; the decks will most likely be rewards for funding as opposed to being sold after funding. And we’ll probably think of some other rewards and whatnot. c: )
4. Once the project goal is reached, we’ll start printing and sending out decks! Hooray!

Some Worries

• I’ll really have to search for a good company that can produce cards in small batches. I don’t foresee needing 1,000 decks, so hopefully we’ll find a company that can do smaller batches. (Large batches get pretty expensive, and that money would probably be hard to raise. We’ll see when I do more research!)
• …Actually, that’s about my only worry. o wo But it’s a big one. If I (and other people) think we won’t be able to get the funding, this probably won’t happen. I definitely don’t wanna take peoples’ art, time, and raise hopes and then not be able to print because we don’t have enough money. So there will be lots of fiscal research beforehand!)

Remember, this is just a feeler! Nothing is set in stone yet (so please no messages saying you’d like to be an artist quite yet o wo). I really hope people get on board; I’d love to do this! :DDD So let’s see how it goes!

(Also, I did a quick one card draw while thinking about this with my tarot deck and got the Seven of Wands, which is all about being in a great position for success! Plus, in my deck [The Fantastical Creatures Tarot by Lisa Hunt] the creature for Seven of Wands is the Valkyries, warriors who earned their place in Valhalla! If that’s not a good sign that this should happen, then nothing is. :DDDDD)
